Objectives and Goals

FCSG Objectives

The objectives of FCSG are to:

  • Advocate for meeting our energy needs while minimizing our impact on global climate change
  • Advocate for creating jobs that contribute to the ideal of sustainability.
  • Initiate a community dialogue about what it means to become a sustainable community beyond reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

FCSG Goals

One:

Work with the Fort Collins City Council and key stakeholders to ensure that appropriate measures are taken and sufficient resources are deployed going forward to meet the community-wide greenhouse gas emissions reduction goals established by Council Resolution 2008-051. Those goals are to reduce emissions by 20% by 2020 and 80% by 2050 with respect to a 2005 baseline. The resolution includes a "milestone" of reducing emissions by 3.3% by 2012 with respect to the same baseline.

Two:

Mobilize on-going community support for dedicating the resources needed to meet community-wide greenhouse gas emissions goals by communicating both the environmental and economic benefits of doing so.

Three:

Work with Fort Collins City Council and community stakeholders to develop a formal fifty year vision for becoming a sustainable community. We believe that two key components of this vision will be to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels and move towards climate neutrality.

Four:

Work with Fort Collins City Staff and community stakeholders to begin implementing the city's vision of becoming a sustainable community.
